Japan boosts funding to combat beetle threat to cherry trees

The Environment Ministry is seeking billions of yen to curb a longhorn beetle population endangering cherry trees.

Japan's Environment Ministry has requested 6.7 billion yen (about $43 million) in next fiscal year's budget to control the spread of longhorn beetles, according to Anadolu Agency.

The funding is intended to protect the country's cherry trees from the invasive species, the Turkish news agency reported.
