According to The Guardian, more than 150,000 underwater explosives have been used by salmon companies to deter seals at fish farms in Tasmania's marine areas since 2016.

Data released by Tasmania's Department of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE Tas) showed that salmon operators directed almost 1,800 underwater explosives at seals in the first half of 2026 alone.
