Britain's Sonay Kartal Wins on WTA Return After Six-Month Injury Layoff

Britain's Sonay Kartal marked her return to the WTA Tour with a win over Spain's Andrea Lazaro Garcia at the China Open, following a six-month absence from competition due to injury, according to the BBC.

The victory gives Kartal a positive start as she looks to rebuild her ranking and match fitness after an extended period on the sidelines. Lengthy layoffs can make a player's first tournament back especially challenging, as they adjust to the physical demands and rhythm of top-level competition after months away.

Next steps on tour

Kartal's win at the China Open puts her through to the next stage of the tournament, where she will face a new opponent as she continues her comeback campaign. Further details of the match, including the score and how she will fare in upcoming rounds, were not included in the available report.

British tennis fans will be watching closely to see how Kartal builds on this result in the coming weeks, as she works to return to the form that established her on the WTA Tour before her injury setback.
