The San Diego Padres will be without closer Mason Miller for Tuesday night's National League Division Series Game 3, after the team placed him on the paternity list shortly before the start of the game.
Miller's absence comes at a critical juncture for San Diego, which faces an elimination game in the series.
The paternity list allows players to step away from the team for the birth of a child, with MLB rules permitting a roster replacement during the absence.
It remains unclear how long Miller will be away from the team or who will handle closing duties for the Padres in his absence during the pivotal game.
