North Sea, Nature Untamed review – stunning footage finds beauty under the water
Diver Peter van Rodijnen's underwater footage challenges the idea that the North Sea is a bleak, colorless wilderness.
A new documentary featuring Dutch diver and underwater cinematographer Peter van Rodijnen sets out to challenge common perceptions of the North Sea as a cold, grey and bleak body of water.
The film shows the North Sea's waves lit with the blue glow of bioluminescent algae and illuminated by the colours of coral and plankton blooms, according to a review of the documentary.
Among the featured wildlife is the male shorthorn sculpin fish, shown spending the winter caring for its eggs, cleaning and aerating them with fresh water, with footage capturing the eggs hatching.
The documentary also includes a range of other marine life stories from beneath the water's surface, presented through van Rodijnen's own voiceover.
