The head of a mining company hoping to supply the European Union with rare earths within two years said it is "paramount" to end China's dominance over the supply of raw materials used in products from cars to wind turbines and military jets, according to the Guardian.
Rafael Moreno, whose company has opened a demonstration plant in Brazil, said the market is "nervous" as Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping prepare to meet on Thursday for their second summit of the year, the Guardian reported.
Moreno said it was also "imperative" that Trump and Xi reach a deal for Beijing to ease its threat to ban rare earth exports, according to the report.
