According to RFI, the presidential campaign is now underway, with Marine Le Pen leading in polling and Jean-Luc Mélenchon gaining ground. Édouard Philippe, who is seeking to overtake Gabriel Attal and Bruno Retailleau in the center of the political spectrum, is being questioned about his previous proposal to raise the legal retirement age to 67.
The Le Havre mayor, who hopes to establish himself as the sole candidate, announced Tuesday that he is sending letters to several right-wing and centrist figures to work toward unity. According to Le Monde, most recipients have already dismissed the proposal.
The former Prime Minister held his first campaign political committee on Tuesday in Paris and proposed forming a joint committee with his competitors. Bruno Retailleau and Gabriel Attal have already rejected this offer.
