Crisis-hit Volkswagen has agreed to sell its Osnabrück plant in Lower Saxony to the state government and Israeli investor Aurelius Capital under a preliminary deal. The facility is expected to begin production of defence equipment for Rafael Advanced Defence Systems, which manufactures the Iron Dome missile defence system, from mid-2027 onward.

The sale marks a significant shift for the iconic factory, transitioning from automotive manufacturing to defence production as Volkswagen navigates financial difficulties.
