President Donald Trump said the co-pilot involved in a recent Flydubai incident may have been a "terrorist" or a "whack-job," according to remarks reported by Anadolu Agency.
Trump said he had spoken at length with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the event, suggesting the incident has drawn attention at a high diplomatic level. Specific details about the nature of the Flydubai incident were not fully described in the available reporting.
The president's characterization of the co-pilot in such stark terms is likely to draw scrutiny, given the seriousness of attributing terrorism without confirmed findings from an official investigation. Aviation incidents involving flight crew conduct typically undergo formal investigation by aviation safety authorities before conclusions are drawn about intent or culpability.
Further official details from aviation authorities or Flydubai about the incident were not immediately available in the reporting on Trump's comments.
