Legal action over access
Lawyers representing news outlets barred from the White House have requested an emergency hearing after several journalists were turned away from the building on Thursday morning, which the outlets describe as defiance of a federal judge's order to restore their access.
According to a court filing, journalists from CNN, MS NOW and POLITICO attempted to enter the White House on Thursday and were turned away, with Secret Service agents confiscating hard passes belonging to journalists whose credentials had not previously been revoked.
The dispute has led several major networks to withhold video coverage of White House events in solidarity with CNN, contributing to the decision not to televise the state dinner for Xi Jinping.
