Third Rescued Beluga Whale Dies at US Aquarium After Struggling to Adapt

An Illinois aquarium has announced that a third beluga whale it rescued from a closed marine park in Canada has died after struggling to adjust to its new environment.
The whale, named Osiris, was a 26-year-old female and one of 30 belugas removed earlier this year from Ontario's shuttered Marineland amusement park. She was among 10 belugas rehomed at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, which confirmed that Osiris died at the facility on Monday.
The Shedd Aquarium said Osiris had struggled to acclimate to her new home following her relocation from Marineland. Her death marks the third among the rescued belugas since the mass relocation effort began, following the closure of the Ontario park.
The relocation of the 30 belugas from Marineland was undertaken after the park's closure, with the whales distributed among multiple facilities. Aquarium officials have not detailed the specific cause of Osiris's death beyond noting her difficulty adjusting to the transition.
