Schools Struggle to Reopen in Southern Lebanon as War Damage Threatens Education

Schools in southern Lebanon are struggling to reopen as the region's education system faces severe disruption from ongoing conflict, according to RFI.
With roughly 6% of Lebanese territory occupied by the Israeli military, the United Nations warns that 100,000 schoolchildren in southern Lebanon risk being deprived of education, the report said.
More than 340 educational establishments have sustained damage from the war, and 17 have been completely destroyed, according to the report.
Access to education in the region had already been weakened prior to the current conflict, strained by Lebanon's economic crisis and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the report noted.
The scale of the disruption underscores the compounding pressures facing Lebanese communities, where years of economic and public health crises have preceded the latest conflict-driven setbacks to schooling.
