The Alternative for Germany (AfD), a far-right, anti-immigrant and pro-Kremlin party, won 44% of the vote in Saxony-Anhalt's state elections, the Guardian reported. Germany's domestic intelligence agency has classified the party as "rightwing extremist," according to the report.

The Guardian gathered reactions from residents of Magdeburg, the state capital, including a paramedic and other locals, to gauge responses to the result and concerns about the party's plans.
