Punjab Orders Enforcement Against Overloaded Vehicles on Highways
Communication and Works Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth directed the Highway Department to begin enforcement under the Axle Load Management System.

Punjab's Minister for Communication and Works, Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth, has directed the Highway Department to launch an enforcement phase against overloaded vehicles on the province's highways, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
The directive follows the completion of the establishment and monitoring phases of the Axle Load Management System (ALMS), a program aimed at regulating vehicle weight limits on Punjab's road network. Bharth issued the instructions while chairing a meeting reviewing the system's functioning, APP reported.
Moving to enforcement
With the monitoring infrastructure now in place, the Highway Department has been tasked with actively enforcing weight limits against vehicles found to be overloaded. Overloading has long been cited by transport authorities in Pakistan as a factor contributing to accelerated road damage and safety risks on highways.
APP's report did not specify the penalties to be applied under the new enforcement phase or provide a timeline for when checks would begin. The Axle Load Management System has been developed as part of broader provincial efforts to improve highway maintenance and road safety standards in Punjab.
