Dry Port Trust chief calls for extending diesel relief to transport, farm sectors

The Chairman of the Multan Dry Port Trust and former president of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Khawaja Muhammad Hussain, has called on the government to extend its diesel relief scheme to the transport and agriculture sectors, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
Hussain said the government's existing fuel relief scheme, which offers a discount of Rs100 per litre, should be expanded to cover goods transporters, tractors and tube wells, arguing that diesel users in these sectors have borne the brunt of price increases driven by global economic turmoil.
He said extending the relief would help ease cost pressures on the transport and agriculture sectors, both of which rely heavily on diesel for their operations.
The appeal comes amid ongoing discussions in Pakistan over fuel pricing and relief measures aimed at cushioning the impact of rising costs on businesses and consumers.
APP's report did not indicate whether the government had responded to Hussain's specific request at the time of publication.
