Pezeshkian Leaves Tehran for New York to Join UN General Assembly Session

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian left Tehran on Tuesday morning bound for New York, where he will take part in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to Iran's Mehr News Agency.

The General Assembly's annual high-level meeting draws together heads of state and government from across the world, providing a forum for countries to present their positions on international affairs and engage in direct diplomacy with counterparts they might not otherwise meet in person during the year.

Pezeshkian's trip continues Iran's practice of sending its president to address the Assembly during its high-level week, a tradition maintained by successive Iranian administrations regardless of the state of relations with Western governments at any given time.
