PCF's Fabien Roussel Calls for Full State Coverage of Breast Cancer Care Costs

Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF), has written to the French president calling for the state to fully cover costs associated with breast cancer treatment, Le Monde reported.

The letter was sent during "Octobre Rose," France's annual breast cancer awareness month. Roussel said he opposes any situation in which patients must choose between paying for their medical care and covering essential needs such as food.

He argued that the costs linked to breast cancer treatment should be borne entirely by the state rather than by patients already coping with a serious diagnosis.

Added to a seasonal campaign

Pink October traditionally centers on raising public awareness of screening and early detection. Roussel's intervention adds a specific policy demand to that seasonal campaign, framing treatment costs as a matter for government action.
