Neo-Nazi Party Challenges Ban as 'Authoritarian' in Australian High Court

Lawyers for the White Australia party—formerly known as the National Socialist Network (NSN)—argued in high court that anti-hate laws passed after the Bondi terror attack rely improperly on political opinion and are "authoritarian in nature." The party was designated as an illegal hate group in May after the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation recommended the ban to home affairs minister Tony Burke.
The lawyers also contend that the commonwealth does not have constitutional power to ban a political party, citing a 1951 high court ruling that rejected an attempt to ban the Communist party.
