Nearly a quarter of parliamentary questions submitted in Belgium's parliament were generated entirely by artificial intelligence, according to a new report.

The report cites warnings from the parliament's speaker that the growing use of AI tools by lawmakers could fuel a flood of unnecessary or low-effort questions, with both lawmakers and ministers increasingly exchanging responses drafted by chatbots rather than the officials themselves.

The findings raise questions about the impact of generative AI tools on legislative processes, as parliaments in various countries grapple with how to adapt oversight and drafting practices to the growing availability of such technology.
