Death of Federico Martin Aramburu: premeditation upheld against both defendants by prosecutor

Prosecutor Philippe Courroye requested, on Wednesday, twenty-seven years of criminal imprisonment against Loïk Le Priol, presented as the author of the fatal shots that cost the life of former Argentine rugby international Federico Martin Aramburu, on March 19, 2022.

According to the indictment, Le Priol acted with premeditation, a qualification that considerably aggravates his criminal responsibility in this case. The public prosecutor described him as an "unamendable defendant", with "proven criminal dangerousness".

Twenty years in prison were also requested against Romain Bouvier, whose shots injured the former Argentine rugby international during the same episode. The thesis of premeditation was also retained against him by the prosecution.

The tragedy, which occurred in March 2022, had aroused strong emotion in France and Argentina, due to the victim's notoriety in the world of rugby. Aramburu had worn the jersey of the Argentine national team before continuing his career in France.

The verdict of this trial, which has yet to be rendered, will determine whether the court accepts the prosecutor's requests or whether it pronounces different sentences for the two defendants.
