German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Monday he would maintain his government with the Social Democrats, citing Germany's "democratic future" after heavy losses to the far right and radical left in regional elections, according to France 24.

Following his news conference, France 24's European service chief Caroline de Camaret offered analysis of the remarks, the broadcaster said.
