According to Deutsche Welle Arabic, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz described his Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party's failure to win seats in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state parliament as a "tragic and exceptional result for the party."

Merz said he remains committed to continuing the federal governing coalition with the Social Democratic Party (SPD), according to the report.
