McLaren to Build First-Ever SUV Aimed at Formula One Fans With Families
The British carmaker plans a new sport utility vehicle as part of a £500m investment from its Abu Dhabi owner that will also fund a new UK factory and create 1,000 jobs.

McLaren is preparing to build a sport utility vehicle for the first time in its 63-year history, according to The Guardian, as the British carmaker seeks to attract wealthy Formula One fans who do not currently own its supercars.
The as-yet-unnamed model is part of a £500m investment in the UK by McLaren's new owner, based in Abu Dhabi, the report said. The investment is also expected to fund a new factory for the company.
The plan will add 1,000 jobs to McLaren's existing UK workforce of 2,500 people, according to the report.
McLaren, long known for its high-performance supercars and its Formula One racing team, has not previously produced an SUV. The move suggests the company is looking to broaden its customer base by appealing to fans of its motorsport operations who may be drawn to the brand but have not purchased its traditional two-seat sports cars.
Further details about the vehicle's specifications, timeline, or pricing were not immediately available.
