"The Golan will remain Syrian territory": Ahmed al-Charaa warns Israel at the UN

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa said Wednesday at the UN General Assembly that the Golan Heights "will remain Syrian territory," according to France 24.

This statement comes as Colombia recently recognized Israel's annexation of the Golan, thus joining the position adopted by the United States on this issue. The Golan Heights, occupied by Israel since 1967 and unilaterally annexed in 1981 in a move not recognized by the majority of the international community, remains a major territorial dispute between Damascus and Tel Aviv.

Sharaa denounces Israeli military operations

The Syrian president also denounced, in his speech, the military operations carried out by Israel in Syria since the fall of former president Bashar al-Assad. FRANCE 24 did not specify in its report the exact nature of the operations targeted by these criticisms.
