Lavrov to Take Part in About 20 International Meetings at UN, Russian Diplomat Says

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is expected to take part in around 20 international meetings during his time at the United Nations, according to Russian diplomat Kirill Logvinov, as reported by TASS.

Logvinov said the top priorities among these engagements are ministerial meetings with Russia's allies within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a security alliance of several former Soviet states that coordinates on defence and security cooperation. Lavrov's schedule at the UN typically includes a mix of bilateral meetings with counterparts from other countries and multilateral sessions tied to the General Assembly's high-level week each September.

As Russia's long-serving foreign minister, Lavrov has regularly used the UN General Assembly gathering in New York as a venue to hold a dense schedule of diplomatic meetings, alongside delivering Russia's formal address to the assembly. The CSTO, whose members include Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, has periodically held ministerial-level talks on the sidelines of major international gatherings such as the UN General Assembly.
