The Kremlin said Friday that Kirill Dmitriev, Russia's special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation, is engaged in discussions about potential economic cooperation with the United States.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters there is an understanding among the parties involved that such cooperation could prove mutually beneficial for both Russia and the United States. Peskov did not elaborate on the specific sectors or scope of the discussions, nor did he provide a timetable for any agreements.

Dmitriev, who heads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, has previously served as a key contact in periodic economic and diplomatic exchanges between Moscow and Washington. His involvement in the current talks suggests the discussions extend beyond purely political or security matters into the economic sphere.

The Kremlin's comments come against a backdrop of complex relations between Russia and the United States, shaped in recent years by sanctions imposed over the conflict in Ukraine and periodic diplomatic contacts aimed at addressing outstanding disputes.

Peskov's remarks, carried by the Russian state news agency TASS, did not specify which US officials or entities Dmitriev has been in contact with, or when any results from the discussions might be expected.
