Iran's President Pezeshkian Departs for New York to Attend UN General Assembly

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has departed Tehran for New York to take part in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to Iran's state news agency IRNA.

The annual gathering brings together heads of state and government from around the world to discuss pressing global issues, ranging from security and economic cooperation to climate change and humanitarian crises. Pezeshkian's attendance places Iran among the roughly one hundred and ninety member states expected to participate in this year's session.

Address Expected To Outline Iran's Positions

As is customary for the General Assembly's high-level segment, Pezeshkian is expected to deliver an address setting out Iran's stance on major international issues, including regional security dynamics in the Middle East and Tehran's relationship with the broader international community. Iranian officials have frequently used the UN platform in past years to present their country's perspective on sanctions, nuclear negotiations, and regional conflicts.
