Germany's ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) performed poorly in two state elections held Sunday, France 24 reported.
Projections showed the party failing to enter parliament in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where the far-right AfD placed first, while the far-left Die Linke led in Berlin, according to the report.
The AfD also made significant gains in both states, building on a recent win in Saxony-Anhalt, France 24 said.
