Germany's regional elections produced mixed results for the country's major parties, with Chancellor Friedrich Merz's CDU performing poorly in both votes, according to France 24.
In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the far-right AfD won the largest vote share but remains isolated after other parties ruled out coalition talks, leaving incumbent SPD premier Manuela Schwesig with a realistic path to forming a government, France 24 reported.
In Berlin, the Left Party came out on top and could potentially form a coalition with the Greens and SPD, the outlet said. France 24's correspondent reported that Merz said his government would "continue with the reforms" and urged supporters not to focus only on setbacks.
