Finnish President Alexander Stubb has asked Elon Musk to allow Starlink to be used to support strikes deep into Russian territory, according to a report from Russian state news agency TASS.

Stubb reportedly said that Ukraine needs stronger air defense capabilities, and suggested that extending Starlink satellite coverage across the whole of Russian territory could help Ukraine repel attacks by Russian armed forces.

Report from Russian state media

The account of Stubb's remarks comes via Russian state media, and it was not immediately possible to independently verify the full context or exact wording of his comments through other sources in the available reporting.

Starlink, the satellite internet system operated by Elon Musk's SpaceX, has played a significant role in Ukraine's military communications since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, and its potential military applications have periodically drawn public discussion.

Neither Musk nor SpaceX had publicly responded to the reported request at the time of the report.
