The Ethiopian Embassy in Pakistan and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) launched the Ethiopian Green Legacy Initiative at the university on Thursday, in a ceremony aimed at strengthening institutional ties between the two countries.
The initiative was launched jointly by Ethiopia's Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Oumer H. Oba, and AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood. Both officials called for stronger institutional linkages between Ethiopia and Pakistan in education, research and other fields.
The Green Legacy Initiative is an Ethiopian government program that has previously been extended to partner countries to promote environmental cooperation alongside educational and diplomatic engagement. Officials at Thursday's launch framed it as a way to build broader ties between the two nations.
AIOU, one of Pakistan's largest public universities and a major provider of distance education, has hosted a number of international partnership events in recent years as part of its efforts to expand academic and diplomatic linkages abroad.
