Eight people, including one child, were wounded in a drone attack on Russia's Ulyanovsk region, according to regional Governor Alexey Russkikh.

Russkikh said all medical services in the region had been placed on high alert following the attack, as authorities worked to treat the wounded and assess the extent of the damage caused. The governor did not immediately provide further details on the specific location struck or the condition of those injured.

Ulyanovsk, located in Russia's Volga region, has periodically been the target of drone strikes as the war in Ukraine has continued, with Ukrainian forces occasionally targeting sites deeper inside Russian territory as part of their broader military campaign. Russian officials have regularly reported such attacks on regions bordering or near the front lines, as well as on more distant areas.

Neither Ukrainian officials nor independent observers have immediately confirmed details of the attack described by the Ulyanovsk governor. Russian authorities have not said whether the attack targeted a specific military or industrial facility.

The incident adds to a string of drone attacks reported across Russian regions in recent months, as both sides in the conflict continue to rely heavily on unmanned aerial systems for long-range strikes.
