The Democratic Republic of Congo is facing its largest Ebola epidemic to date, with confirmed cases now exceeding 7,000 and nearly 3,400 deaths attributed to the outbreak, according to health authorities.
The epidemic began with detection of the rare Bundibugyo virus strain in mid-May. The scale and severity of the outbreak have surpassed all previous Ebola epidemics recorded in the DRC.
