G7 calls on Houthis to de-escalate and calls on Tehran to stop supporting them

In a joint statement issued on Monday, the G7 countries called on Iran to stop arming and supporting the Houthi group in Yemen.

The statement called on the Houthi group to immediately stop its attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, as part of international efforts aimed at calming tensions in the region.

Demands for Tehran

The statement stressed the need for Iran to stop supplying the Houthis with weapons and logistical support, considering that the continuation of this support contributes to prolonging the conflict in Yemen and threatens the stability of the region more broadly.

The statement comes at a time of heightened international concerns about the repercussions of the Houthis' military activities on regional security, especially with regard to targeting Saudi Arabia and other areas in the Red Sea.

There has been no official response from Tehran or the Houthi group to the G7's invitation.
