Two weeks after the AfD's triumph in Saxony-Anhalt, regional election results in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania confirm the far right's advance in Germany, according to France 24.

France 24 reported that the results represent a setback for Chancellor Friedrich Merz's CDU, which he acknowledged, calling it a "catastrophe" while pledging to continue his reform agenda.

Jeannette Süß, of the Institut Français des Relations Internationales' committee on Franco-German relations, discussed the results as a guest on France 24's program "Au Cœur de l'Info," saying there is a sense in the territories of the former East Germany of not being listened to.
