3M, DuPont, Honeywell ordered to face PFAS lawsuit from Connecticut firefighters
A federal judge ruled that more than 20 manufacturers must defend claims that protective gear contaminated with 'forever chemicals' increased cancer risk.
A federal judge on Tuesday ordered more than 20 defendants including 3M, DuPont and Honeywell to face claims by Connecticut firefighters who alleged their protective gear was contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, known as "forever chemicals." The firefighters said the chemicals increased their risk of cancer through absorption into skin, ingestion and inhalation.
Lawyers for 13 firefighter union organizations and 12 individual firefighters described the case as the first class action to exclusively target firefighter gear containing PFAS. The ruling allows the lawsuit to proceed against the manufacturers.
