Zelenskyy Set to Address UN as Russia Strikes Kyiv, Killing Two

Russia launched daylight drone attacks on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, on Wednesday, killing two people and wounding 23 others, just hours before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was due to address world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly.

The strikes came a day after Zelenskyy met with US President Donald Trump, who has expressed frustration over the slow pace of talks aimed at ending the war and over the continued escalation of aerial attacks by both sides. The timing of the Kyiv strikes, immediately preceding Zelenskyy's UN appearance, underscored the gap between diplomatic efforts and the continuing violence on the ground.

Kyiv has faced repeated waves of Russian drone and missile attacks throughout the war, with daylight strikes representing a departure from the more common pattern of nighttime bombardment and posing additional risks to civilians going about daily activities.
