Sexual violence in Paris after-school programs: Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire acknowledges failures before Senate
Questioned Wednesday by the Senate inquiry commission, the mayor of Paris admitted collective failings by the city in a case involving more than 230 ongoing investigations.
Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire, elected last March, was questioned Wednesday by the Senate inquiry commission investigating the sexual violence scandal in Paris after-school programs, according to RFI. He followed his predecessor, former Mayor Anne Hidalgo, who was also heard by the commission.
According to reports, more than 230 investigations are currently underway in primary schools and daycare centers in the capital. Since the beginning of the year, 132 after-school activity coordinators have been suspended as part of this case.
Before senators, Emmanuel Grégoire expressed deep regrets and acknowledged failings on the part of Paris city authorities in managing this matter, according to RFI.
The Senate inquiry commission is continuing its work to examine the circumstances that enabled these acts of violence and to assess the oversight mechanisms put in place by city officials to supervise personnel supervising after-school activities.
