US Rejects Iranian Mine Claim for Tanker Incident Near Hormuz
The US Central Command says a Panama-flagged tanker was struck by an Iranian missile and drone, not a mine as Tehran claimed.
The US rejected Iran's assertion that the Panama-flagged tanker El Gaia hit a mine near the Strait of Hormuz, according to US Central Command. The command said the vessel was struck by an Iranian missile last month and hit again by a drone over the weekend.
The incident adds to tensions in the strategic waterway, through which a significant portion of global oil shipments pass. Iran has not provided additional details on its mine claim.
