US officials met with Houthi leaders over the weekend at the American embassy in Muscat, Oman, according to confirmation reported by The Guardian. Following the meeting, the US decided against intervening to assist Saudi Arabia in countering a Houthi advance in Yemen.
The Iran-backed militant group reassured US officials that the ceasefire agreement struck in 2025 remains in effect and that it has no intention of attacking US shipping in the Red Sea. The Houthis stated that only Saudi-linked shipping would be regarded as a target, citing Saudi Arabia's blockade of Yemen as justification.
