UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk warned Monday that voluntary self-regulation by companies developing frontier artificial intelligence is "nowhere near sufficient" to address existing harms and prevent advanced autonomous AI models from circumventing human safeguards.
Turk cautioned that "the current race towards ever more powerful AI is a step change towards greater" risks, according to remarks made at the United Nations.
