NATO Shoots Down Drone Over Lithuania; Danish Helicopter Targeted by Russian Flares

A drone flying over Lithuanian airspace was destroyed in the night of Monday to Tuesday by NATO fighter jets, the Lithuanian president announced, according to authorities in the country.

According to Lithuanian national radio, the aircraft came from neighboring Belarus and was heading westward when it was intercepted and shot down by fighter aircraft of the Atlantic Alliance.

Meanwhile, a Danish helicopter flying over the Baltic Sea Monday evening was targeted by flares fired by a Russian frigate, according to reported information.

These two incidents occur in a context of persistent tensions between Russia and NATO member countries on the eastern borders of the Alliance, as the war in Ukraine continues to weigh on relations between Moscow and Western capitals.
