UN Agency: Over 308,000 People Displaced From Sudan's Kordofan Region Since October 2025

More than 308,000 people have been displaced from Sudan's Kordofan region since October 2025, according to the United Nations' migration agency, underscoring the scale of upheaval in an area that has seen intensifying conflict over the past year.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said its teams recorded 308,179 people displaced from 1,327 separate locations across North, West and South Kordofan between October 25, 2025, and September 1, 2026. The figures reflect the cumulative toll of displacement across the broader Kordofan region over nearly a year.

Kordofan has emerged as one of the areas most affected by Sudan's ongoing conflict, which has driven waves of displacement across multiple regions of the country since fighting broke out between rival military factions. The IOM's tracking of displacement figures is part of its broader effort to monitor population movements and humanitarian needs across Sudan as the crisis continues.

Large-scale displacement of this kind places enormous strain on host communities and humanitarian organizations working to provide shelter, food, water and medical care to those forced from their homes. Displaced populations often face heightened vulnerability to disease, malnutrition and further violence as they move in search of safety.

Sudan has faced one of the world's largest displacement crises in recent years, with millions of people uprooted nationwide since the conflict began. International aid organizations have repeatedly called for increased humanitarian access and funding to respond to needs across the country, including in Kordofan, where insecurity has complicated relief efforts.
