Ukraine's Foreign Minister Says Russia Using Food Crisis to Spur Migration to Europe

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has accused Russia of deliberately using the global food crisis and its blockade of the Black Sea as tools to trigger migration toward Europe and destabilize the continent, according to Ukrinform.

Sybiha said Russia's actions, including restrictions on Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea, are part of a broader strategy aimed at undermining European stability by exacerbating food insecurity in vulnerable regions, which could in turn drive population movements toward the European Union.

The foreign minister called on the European Union to take steps to safeguard Ukrainian agricultural exports, which have historically supplied food to countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. He argued that protecting these export routes is essential not only for global food security but also for countering what he described as Russian hybrid warfare tactics.

Sybiha urged EU member states and institutions to work collectively in developing strategies to counter such campaigns, framing the issue as part of a wider pattern of destabilization efforts he attributes to Moscow.
