UK Warns of Climate Crisis Threat to National Security in Report Once Suppressed

The United Kingdom has warned foreign governments that climate and nature crises, along with a coming El Niño event, pose a threat to national security and defense, according to The Guardian.

UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband presented the findings to foreign ministers from the European Union, Kenya and other countries at a private meeting held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday night.

The presentation drew on a report compiled by UK intelligence agencies, which found that the collapse of natural systems around the world could lead to conflict, migration and food shortages, according to the report.

The Guardian reported that the findings had previously been suppressed under Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government before being shared with international counterparts.

Miliband's presentation framed the climate and nature crises as direct threats to the defense and security planning of nations worldwide, rather than solely environmental concerns.
