Employers in Britain will have to sit down with workers who request flexible working and justify their reasons for any refusals under new government reforms announced by First Secretary of State Louise Haigh on Tuesday. Under the new rights, employers must "properly consider" flexibility requests and offer a face-to-face meeting to discuss them.

The changes were announced at the TUC conference and represent a strengthening of workplace rights around schedule arrangements.
