UK launches app and trader register to combat cowboy builders

The UK is introducing an app and register of trusted traders to protect consumers from unqualified and unreliable builders, according to The Guardian. The initiative follows complaints from homeowners who have lost money to cowboy traders operating without proper credentials or accountability.

One case involves Sheri Ingram, 35, who was scammed by builder Lee Slocombe in south Wales when she was in her early 20s. Slocombe requested upfront payment for materials and discounted work, then failed to complete a £8,000 renovation project properly. Ingram said warning signs were missed at the time because of her inexperience.
