Tyler Adams has been named captain of the United States men's national soccer team, head coach Mauricio Pochettino announced Friday, according to ESPN.
The appointment places Adams, a midfielder who has been a regular fixture for the national team in recent years, at the helm of the squad as it enters a new World Cup cycle. Pochettino's announcement signals continuity in leadership as the team builds toward upcoming international competition.
Adams has previously captained the USMNT on an interim or match-by-match basis, and the formal designation from Pochettino cements his role as the team's primary leader on and off the field.
The decision comes as Pochettino continues to shape the roster and identity of the national team under his tenure. ESPN's report did not detail additional comments from Pochettino or Adams beyond confirmation of the captaincy.
The United States men's national team will look to Adams to provide leadership through qualifying matches and tournaments as part of the new cycle, with further squad and schedule details expected to follow in subsequent announcements.
