Police were searching Tuesday for two thieves who stole two paintings by Renoir from a museum in southern France, a local mayor said, according to France 24. The thieves abandoned two other paintings in the museum's garden as they fled.

France 24 reported that the heist follows a string of similar thefts in France, including the daylight theft of crown jewelry valued at around $100 million from the Louvre in Paris last year.
