Two More Arrested in Investigation Into Oxfordshire ‘Mountain’ of Illegal Waste
Six people have now been arrested in connection with hundreds of tonnes of fly-tipped rubbish dumped near Kidlington, with clean-up costs estimated at about £6m, authorities said.
Two more people have been arrested in connection with a large illegal waste dump discovered in Oxfordshire, bringing the total number of people apprehended to six, according to The Guardian.
The waste, described as a “mountain of illegal waste” stacked around 10 metres high, was found in a field between the River Cherwell and the A34 near Kidlington in November last year, the report said.
Hundreds of tonnes of rubbish reportedly appeared at the site, prompting concerns from local officials about the scale of the clean-up required.
The area’s MP said the cost of removing the waste could exceed the local council’s annual budget, according to the report. The clean-up operation has been estimated to cost about £6m, The Guardian reported.
